Sushasoner Jonny Procharavizan-SUPRO organized a Human Chain today, October 12, 2011, at Shahbag, Dhaka at 10 am to protest against the unjust policy and activity of World Bank, IMF and other IFIs as a part of celebrating Global Week of Action against Poverty 2011. In the Human Chain the speakers demanded for MDG announced promises of developed world, unconditional development aid, cancellation of foreign aid, confirming fair participation in business and development and stopping unjust influence of World Bank, IMF in development policy.

The speakers also demanded for a development policy free from unjust influence of donors. They strongly criticized the decision regarding the management of climate fund by World Bank. The speakers also demanded quota free and tax free entrance of Bangladeshi products specially garments products to the market of developed world. Representatives from different like minded organizations and Dhaka Campaign Group of SUPRO showed solidarity with SUPRO and gave their speeches. From SUPRO, Kazi Shafiqur Rahman-Coordinator, Saif Uddin Ahmed-Coordinator, Farhana Akter-Associate Coordinator; from Dhaka Campaign Group, Unnoti Rani and Bilkis Akter and student representative Arifur Rahman gave their speeches. Md. Shariful Islam-Associate Coordinator and Md. Tariq-Ul-Hassan Khan- Associate Coordinator from SUPRO, representatives from like minded organizations and members of Dhaka Campaign Group were also present in the Human Chain.

In the Human Chain SUPRO demanded the following:

  • Developed countries have to provide 0.7% of their national income as unconditional development aid according to their promise
  • Unjust influence of World Bank and IMF in development policy has to be stopped
  • All the debt has to be cancelled without any condition
  • Control of World Bank in management of climate fund has to be stopped
  • Quota free and tax free entrance of Bangladeshi products specially garments products to the market of developed world has to be ensured
  • World wide free movement of experienced and limited experienced Bangladeshi labors has to be ensured
  • Worldwide employment opportunity for the experienced and limited experienced Bangladeshi labors has to be ensured
