Mr.Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said this budget is being presented to please handful of people and deprive a large number of people. Urging for a change in the budget formulation process, he said if people are not attached with the process it cannot be called people's budget. He said the finance minister should have imposed inheritance tax to boost collection, as the value of property has skyrocket in the country. He criticized the social safety net projects, saying the state has taken up those programmes in order to purposefully exclude some people.“If the allocations under the safety net programmes are added together and distributed among all the poor people, there will be no poverty in the country.”
The declared budget in essential public services for 2014-15 is not sufficient to meeting the commitments of the government- SUPRO’s grassroots leaders shared the concern as an instant reaction in the media conference immediately after declaration of budget by the Finance Minister on 5 June at 7:00 pm at the conference room of SUPRO.
They praised the government for their commitments and initiatives that are shown in some particular areas under health, education, agriculture, tax, district budget. However, SUPRO concluded with some specific reaction as follows:
Sushasoner Jonny Procharavijan-SUPRO has declared to give more importance to the Direct Taxes than the dependency on the indirect taxes in the next budget of 2014-15. Lots of demands from the mass people have been approached in the seminar by the district wise pre-budget discussion. In the seminar, they have also approached to take into account the taxes from the people who don’t give taxes properly after reducing the dependency on the foreign loan. The tax authority can be countrified and the tax rules can be modified
