Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) and SUPRO jointly staged a very first English intervarsity debate championship between 4th September and 7th September 2014 at DU on promoting tax justice issue. The theme of the program is “Ensure Tax Justice Ensures Progress and Prosperity”. In the four-day long debating championship 40 teams from 24 public and private universities took part in the competition. This tournament would be held under the rules of British Parliament format which had covered several debate competitions.
The tournament was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Mahbuba Nasrin moderator of DUDS through an opening session where SUPRO director Alison Subrata Baroi attended as special guest.
Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, honorable finance minister of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh attended as chief guest in the closing ceremony and distributed crest and prize money to winning team. Professor A A M S Arefin Siddique Honorable vice chancellor, University of Dhaka, SUPRO general secretary Md. Arifur Rahman, Moderator of DUDS (Dhaka University Debating Society) Professor Dr. Mahbuba Nasreen attended as especial guest in the session.
Sushashoner Jonno Procharavizan (SUPRO) observed World Health Day 2014 with full enthusiasm and great exertion through a peaceful Human Chain at Shahbagh, in front of National Musium, Dhaka, where various likeminded NGOs, CSOs, Dhaka Campaign Group, Budget Alliance Group, Green Voice & Students Forum joined and expressed solidarity with the popular demands for ensuring health rights for all. On the other hand SUPRO district committee also organized rally, human chain and different type of programs in 45 districts to observe the day.
Health is our right: Ensure the accessibility and rights of essential services specially health for the citizens by enhancing the capacity of government health institutions in assurance of essential drugs. Highlighting the theme of the Day all speakers came into the point that in the FY 2013-14 health budget is 4.3 % only of the total national budget which is 0.8% of GDP. Besides, according to World Health Organization, the health budget should be 5% - 6 % of GDP of any country.
On the eve of International Literacy Day on 8 September 2013, SUPRO organized several programs like Education Fair in district level and human chain in central level. Education fair (Rally, Display, Quiz, Essay / painting competition, cultural functions etc) on the campaign theme of SUPRO at district level in 45 districts. The 45 districts are Faridpur, Jamalpur, Rajbari, Mymensingh, Shariatpur, Tangail, Netrokona, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Natore, Pabna, Sunamgonj, Moulovibazar, Sylhet, Bogra, Jaipurhat, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Chapainobabgonj, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon, Hobiganj, Chittagong, Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Rangamati, Lakkhipur, Bagerhat, Khagrachari, Chuadanga, Jessore, Jhenaidah,Khulna, Kushtia, Pirojpur,Magura, Narail, Sathkhira, Borguna, Barisal and Potuakhali. On the other hand human chain held in front of national museum, Shabagh, Dhaka at the time of 10.00 am to 11.00pm. Human chain also held on the campaign theme of SUPRO. Dhaka campaign group, students forum and SUPRO staffs are participated in the program . Among the total numbers of participants (75) 45were male and 30 were female.
