On 22nd June, 2013 SUPRO organized an advocacy meeting with MPs and the members of public estimate committee at OATH Room of Bangladesh National Parliament House.  In the meeting a discussion paper was presented which stated some pro poor demands and recommendation especially on essential services prior on education, health and agriculture sector. National Council Member of SUPRO, Madhob Chandra Dutta placed the paper in front the MPs. Earlier Director of SUPRO, Samia Ahmed addressed all. Arifur Rahman, General Secretary of SUPRO, delivered welcome speech where Mustafizur Rahman Khan, Chairperson of SUPRO, described the objectives of the meeting.  Abdul Awal, Executive Board Member of SUPRO, moderated the whole meeting.

Speakers said in POST BUDGET NATIONAL SEMINAR for FY2013-14


img 1The process of budget formulation in Bangladesh is very much centralized. So it is essential to reform the too much centralized budget structure to make national budget pro people. The proposed budget for the FY 2013-14 has mainly served the interest of the rich and businessmen.  Indirect tax has been increased which will negatively affect the lives of the poor people. Provision has been made to whiten black money which is tantamount to institutionalizing of corruption. By allocating low budget in the agriculture subsidy, the government has, in way, violated its own electoral promise. These are frustrating- speakers said in a post-budget discussion in titled ‘National Budget 2013-14: Review of Grassroots’ organized by Sushasoner Jonny Procharavizan-SUPRO on 14 June 2013 at VIP Lounge of National Press Club, Dhaka. They added- Bureaucratic complication in budget implementation has to be reduced and inter-ministry coordination has to be increased.

‘‘If we ensured the proper punishment of previous incident then we could avoid such type of  Rana plaza tragedy . Unfortunately we are failed to ensure the legal action against Tajrin, Hamim tragedy and so on. For the first time the Government published the investigation report but if we again fail to implement the law as per the recommendation of this report then it would be proved valueless report’’.  Speakers told these at the press conference held on  28 May, 2013 at DRU ( Dhaka Reporters Unity), VIP hall room organized by SUPRO to ensure and protect the rights of Garments worker. Mustafizur Rahman Khan Chairperson of SUPRO  presided  over the conference  and M.A Quader Executive Member, Former secretary of SUPRO Moderate the program.

Samia Ahmed, Director of SUPRO present the position paper and also Shamima Nasreen, President of Shadhin Bangla Garments Sramik Karmochari Fedaration, Anju Ara ,Victim of Rana Plaza Tragedy, Rozina Begum Wife of Late.Shofiqul Islam, who was dead caused by Rana Plaza collapsed, were present. Anju Ara and Rozina Begum explain their bitter experience in front of the journalists.
