SUPRO organized a two-day-long training on Budget Advocacy along with Budget Alliance Group (BAG) members on between 21 and 22 December 2014 at STAR centre, SUPRO, Dhaka to strengthen BAG and promoting budget advocacy. Total 19 Participants actively participated and sensitize about budget advocacy of which 13 were male and 6 were female.
Director Alison Subrata Baroi, Coordinator Training Md. Shariful Islam and Associate Coordinator Tax Campaign Md. Areful Islam of SUPRO facilitated the two day training program. The used methods of the training were lecture, question & answer, open discussion and group work etc.
To maintain coordination of grass roots leaders and share the progress of implementing grassroots and national level activities with SUPRO National Council. National Council is a supreme body of SUPRO which consists of 24 grassroots campaigners. The meeting was organized on October 29, 2014 at SUPRO secretariat in Dhaka. 18 National Council Members from different district participated in the meeting of which 13 were male and 5 were female.
The meeting was moderated by SUPRO General Secretary Md. Arifur Rahman. Md. SUPRO Vice-Chair Ahmed Shawpan Mahmud, Treasurer Mozibur Rahman and others board member were present in the meeting. Mr. Conor Molly, Programme Manager and Dhana Ranjan Tripura, Policy and Campaign Officer, Oxfam Novib in Bangladesh also attended in the meeting as guest. Series of policy decisions on programmatic issue have been taken as discussed issue in this meeting. In the meeting a decision has been taken a team consist of 3 members form SUPRO is going to participate in People’s SAARC which is going to be held in Nepal in 11-15 November 2014.
In first batch training participants were SUPRO 24 district campaign facilitators (DCF) of which 20 were male and 4 were female. SUPRO director Alison Subrata Baroi inaugurated the three-day training program where SUPRO Training Coordinator Md. Shariful Islam, Associate Coordinator Tax Campaign Md. Areful Islam and Campaign Coordinator Shakera Nahar took part as facilitator. At the end of the training program an action plan has been prepared by the participant how and when the one day orientation would be organized in district level with the district committee members.
In 2nd batch training 22 out of 24 national council member of SUPRO from different district actively participated in the training of which 14 were male and 8 were female. The first day training program was divided into two sessions. 1st session was facilitated by Md. Towfiqul Islam Khan, prominent research fellow, CPD. Illicit Financial Flow-Transfer Pricing, Trade Mispricing, Black Money, Money Laundering were the key discussed issues by the resource person. In 2nd session Mohammad Abdul Mazid, Honorable Chairman of Chittagong Stock Exchange and former Chairman of NBR presented as resource person. Is our current tax policy & system progressive? Does the policy & system address inequality and pro-poor perspective? were the key topic of the discussion.
